The University of Belgrade is the oldest and largest university in Serbia. Founded in 1808 as the Belgrade Higher School in revolutionary Serbia, by 1838 it merged with the Kragujevac-based departments into a single university.
According to the global ranking carried out by the Shanghai List in the year 2015, the University of Belgrade is amongst the top 400 universities in the world.
According to the University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) list, the University of Belgrade is on 208th position in the world, and it is on 89th position in the area of mathematics.
